On the 3rd of December 1984, a major chemical disaster occoured in Bhopal, India. 42 tonnes of the highly toxic methyl isocynate (MIC). The gas was exposed to 500,000 people; 8,000 people died within two weeks. An estimated 16,000people dued from gas related diseases. The gas was released by an american own company called Union Carbide Pesticide plant. The disaster was able to happen due to the fact that one of the flair towers did not have a gas srubber vent attached to it. The gas srubbing vent is what treats the leaked gas so that it is at a safe level, thus leading to the disasterous events that occured that day.
